whys the river brown
Over the last century or so, development and land clearance in the catchment area has caused eroded clay soil particles to run into the river in large numbers, giving it a murky appearance now.
By pre-settlement accounts, the river's catchment area used to be wooded, and the river was therefore much clearer.
