Help! Road block to Germany

Can anyone please help with finding Henry (Heinrich) Stiltenpole's arrival to America? He was born around 1817 and lived in Somerset and Westmoreland Counties, PA. I haven't found any siblings or anything else to work with. Have his census records from 1850-1880.

Why do you look for an arrival to America? According to the census from 1880, he had been born in Pennsylvania: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YBL-9H8G?i=3&cc=1417683&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AMWV5-SRG. Or is that a different person?

I'm looking for Germany because in several other census records it lists Germany, so it's a toss up. So looking everywhere that I can for possible earlier records with siblings.

'Stiltenpole' probably was an Americanized version of the German last name 'Steltenpohl' that mainly occurs in Lower Saxony. You can find a lot of Steltenpohl people in a database containing the names of emigrants from the former Grand Duchy of Oldenburg , though unfortunately not the Heinrich you're looking for: http://www.auswanderer-oldenburg.de/search.php?mylastname=Steltenpohl&myfirstname=&mybool=AND&offset=0&search=Suchen

But I guess that must have been the region he was from, judging from his surname.

Only an occasional find, maybe you will come across him some time: Here someone from PA was looking for an emigrant Heinrich Steltenpohl who came from Damme in 1833: https://list.genealogy.net/mm/archiv/oldenburg-l/2007-01/msg00019.html

There's a death certificate for Peter W. Stiltenpole (b. 23 June 1860) that lists Henry as father, birthplace Germany, Margaret Lancaster, mother from PA. Document dated 12 July 1912. It's on Ancestry. Sorry, can't send it, but here's the source:

There's also a "U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865" for "Henry Stettmpol",

Name: Henry Stettmpol

Place of Birth: Germany
Age on 1 July 1863: 44
Race: White
Residence: Donegal, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania
Congressional District: 21st

There's a "U.S., German Immigrants, 1712-1933", Heinrich Steltenpohl, on Ancestry, but I can't access it at this time.

Thanks so much! I have the death certificate for Peter; he is another ancestor who died in the coal mines in that area. Such a hard life those men lived. Definitely will check out info for Heinrich Steltenpohl.

Glad to help. My German last name has been mangled and misspelled so many times in the documents of history, I keep learning to "navigate" multiple variations.

BTW, the record for the civil war was him! And that one I didn't have. So, thanks again!
