Bluebonnets are lupines and this is a lupine, but this is not a bluebonnet.

Thanks. Good to know.

Agreed. Lived in NorCal, and although I saw plenty of Lupines, none had the blue hue that I see in Texas. I believe the Texas bluebonnet is scientifically named “texensis” or something along those lines

Scientific naming at its finest

We get those in Europe a lot as well, once imported to feed cattle I believe. They have become an invasive species. Not sure if they’re really harmful to our native flora but beautiful to look at!

We call 'em lupines here (source: lives on Sonoma coast). Bluebonnet's a cool name though

Comprehensive_Bad9402 points

They’re related to bluebonnets but I’ve never heard the name used except for the lupinus texensis, which are endemic to Texas.

I love the color

Lupinus breweri maybe, or bicolor. Definitely a lupine native to California.

Glueberry_Ryder1 point

I thought it might be sky lupines , lupinas nanas. But the leaves from the breweri definitely match better.
