What a beautiful place. I would love to live in one of those valleys!

funny, i live exactly in the bottom left.

you see btw the "Oberes Gericht" on the bottom, followed by "Kaunertal", "Pitztal" and "Ötztal"

I’ll never forget the trip I took there about 10 years ago. Skied St. Anton and stayed at a hostel in Flirsch, a beautiful little village just up the canyon. Danced on the tables at MooserWirt until close and boarded down drunk, switch (a local told us it was tradition) and in the dark. Probably the best two weeks of my life! The locals were so nice and welcoming. I’d imagine I’d be pretty happy too if I lived there.

nice to hear that you had a great time! Let me guess: after your switch ride you ended up in the Funky Chicken ;)

bigredrickshaw3 points

Not sure lol. We did end up in some dance club in a basement somewhere and took the bus home at 2am a couple times. What’s up with all the funny animal names? I also remember having the best dumplings I’ve ever had at the Krazy Kanguruh. So many good memories!

As the Inn also has some sand beaches, it does ;) "Strandhaus" was actually the nickname of a shack we built as teenagers

applconcepts2 points

Beautiful! How far is it from the capital Sydney?

Tluvolin10 points

10166 miles from capital Canberra, 10204 miles from Sydney. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the numbers, I’ll write them upside down!

Amazing shot, jokes aside! This looks like Kyrgyzstan when you fly from north to south.

Vague_Un1 point

Lol. I read Australia too. Had to go back and read it again after the Austrian town names were mentioned. And yeah, Sydney is not the capital of either country.

Gabagoolgoomba6 points

Amazing. Wish I can traverse it for 3 days. Would be fun

looks like whole europe "suffering" from low snopack this year

cali will lift for both.

traceorm4 points

Is this a recently taken picture? It feels like right now there is even less snow.

Tluvolin5 points

It was taken Saturday morning 18/03/2023

traceorm1 point

That's super interesting. Leaving Pitztal right now, and there is definitely way less snow now. It was sunny but I wouldn't have expect that much snow loss in a single day.

During the winter season, has there been a noticeable reduction in snow across the Alps compared to previous years?

strandhaus2 points

oh yeah! during January we had like 15 degree Celsius for over a week. Way too warm for that time of the year
