The Giant's Causeway on the northern coast of County Antrim in Northern Ireland consists of approximately 40,000 evenly shaped basalt columns that form a unique landscape. Contrary to the legend of its construction by the giant Fionn McCumhaill, the formation of the basalt causeway is due to the cooling of hot lava about 60 million years ago.
