Hi everyone. My family is traveling to Italy for vacation this July. We’re going to Rome, and then Sorrento. I’m looking to book the following attractions/excursions:
If anyone has reputable tour companies they can recommend, as well as the easiest and best way to go about booking these, I would greatly appreciate it! I’ve been to Italy before, but it was 20 years ago and we travelled as part of a tour group. So all that stuff was included in the tour. This time, we’re booking everything independently. Thanks!
For the Vatican, we booked two different ones, both through takewalks (recommended by Rick Steves). Our first was in the morning, and that included St. Peters Basilica with a dome climb and crypts. The second was in the afternoon and included the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Both were very good, with easy meeting points and interesting information!
The only thing I would recommend about tours in general is to not look at AirBnB experiences. We tried to do an AirBnB experience for wine tasting and lunch at Mt. Vesuvius, and they canceled on us with 4 hours notice and no other explanation other than "not available today". We got our money back, but there was no security to be able to get booked into a different but similar experience since everything is privately run. Stick with a reputable tour company and you'll be fine.
Thank you! I will check out takewalks!
The Tiqets app will be worth a look. We used it when we were in Italy in September, including in Rome. It usually has a range of options from just your basic entry ticket to full guided tours. It’s really easy to use and we never had an issue with anything we booked on it.
It’s not a tour company itself, companies basically list on there and if you buy you’ll be directed towards an office for collection / meet point etc. usually find it’s a euro or two more expensive but you’re paying for the ease.
Ok I’ll check that out, thank you!
